The Process:
We apply a specialized Polymer-Modified Cement Overlay directly on top of your existing slab.
- Strength: These overlays are engineered to be up to 6,000 PSI (twice as strong as standard concrete).
- Thickness: Depending on the damage, we apply a layer ranging from "credit card thin" to 1 inch thick.
- The Result: A flawless, "blank canvas" surface that looks exactly like a freshly poured slab.

Broom Finish (Exterior)
- Best For: Driveways, Walkways, Pool Decks.
- Why: Provides a high-traction, non-slip texture identical to a standard sidewalk. It is clean, functional, and safe for steep San Francisco driveways.
Smooth / Trowel Finish (Interior)
- Best For: Living Rooms, Retail Stores.
- Why: Creates a smooth, cloudy aesthetic similar to polished concrete but with consistent color and no exposed aggregate.
Knockdown Texture (Pool Decks)
- Best For: Pool surrounds and Patios.
- Why: A textured, "cool-deck" finish that stays cooler under bare feet in the San Jose sun and provides excellent slip resistance.
Perfect for Damaged or Mismatched Concrete.
Unlike Polished Concrete, which reveals the character (and flaws) of the slab, Resurfacing hides them completely.
- Hide Trench Lines: Perfect for remodels where walls were moved and plumbing trenches cut into the floor.
- Fix Spalling: We fill in the pitted, "popcorn" texture caused by wear and tear.
- Unified Look: If you have an old patio and a new extension, we can resurface both to make them look like one continuous pour.
The Bond is Everything
An overlay is only as good as its adhesion. If you skip prep, it will delaminate (pop off). At FAMSCA, we follow the strict surface preparation standards we learned from industry leaders like Concrete Experts and Dynamic1.
- Deep Cleaning: We remove oil, grease, and old sealers.
- Profiling (Grinding): We mechanically grind the base concrete to open the pores. This ensures the overlay has something to "grab" onto.
- Priming: We apply a bonding primer to fuse the new cement to the old slab.
- Application: We pour, spread, and finish the overlay.
- Sealing: Once cured, we apply a penetrating sealer to protect your new surface from water and stains.

Resurfacing FAQ
Will the cracks come back?
We repair existing cracks before resurfacing using structural epoxy menders7. However, if the ground underneath shifts significantly (common in CA), cracks can reflect through. We often incorporate control joints into the design to minimize this risk.
How long does it last?
A properly installed and sealed polymer overlay can last 10-15 years or more, even with vehicle traffic.
